Saturday Slamdown, Thursday Style

Things we do not love this week and what is to come. ----
1. That we drove our Sarah to the airport today...back to England...I strongly dislike that place at the moment. What are we going to do without our only "respectable member of the community"!?
2. A cyclone is on its way. It should be here on Christmas day, which for us, is tomorrow. It will then rain the next 4 days. Thank you Henry for bringing this weather with you. Debbie= Sunshine.
3. People at local stores are currently being rude due to the high volume of stupid customers asking stupid questions. We, of course, are not those stupid people and our questions are not stupid. Love us for being intelligent.
4. That so much candy and cookies were brought by Katie's family....The Holiday season has really been felt around the waistline.
5. Working on Boxing Day, with a sale...where people will SURELY ask stupid questions about outdoor wear.
6. Handwashing dishes. All day long...dishes
7. Tiny refrigerators. Where shall I put these eggs? Or leftovers? And WHY do you leak all over the floor. Funny story..the refrigerator leaked and I walked into the kitchen and totally slipped. Yes, feet in the air landed on my but. Mmmhm. No one was home. I had to appreciate the hilarity by myself.
8. Freaking Debbie's 2 in 1 washer/ dryer. Sounds like a dream come true right? After paying 6 bucks to do a load of laundry... having it readily available seemed like the most perfect opportunity.... FALSE. Literally it took over 3 hours to do ONE load of laundry. It was also funny at the start Katie and Debbie thought I messed up the machine because it looked like there were bubbles in while the clothes were dry. No guys...I did not put soap in on a machine wash. (I really thought I may have though. Just my luck)

Things we LOVE!

1. The fact that it's now officially Christmas and we're sitting in the Groth's living room to their apartment 2 minutes from the beach while Debbie Katie and Ryan nurse their sunburns.
2. That we have cookies and candies that are making us fat! Wooo!
3. That we are watching a movie staring our BFF Russell Crowe
4. The book im currently reading "The Secret Servant"
5. Ice Cream
6. Hurricanes. Delic restaurant Debbie took Katie and I to.
7. Darling Harbour
8. Dates on the pier.
9. New drinking challenges at the Heartbreak Hotel...the epic tale of moving from Passion Pop to Vodka....
10. Getting mail. Still about the best thing ever. If you forgot our address...dont hesitate to ask.

Business

1. I just figured out how to allow EVERYONE to post comments. So if you have or have had something to say... please feel free. Unless it's rude. Then I dont want you reading this blog anyway.
2. If you would like to be emailed this blog when I post a new one automatically please let me know! Either through email jlgowin@gmail.com or facebook or whatever and leave your email address. This may only apply to ten people though im sure not that many more would be interested. ;)
3. Again I apologize about the lack of apostrophes and commas. I get hyped up and all grammatical knowledge goes straight for the window. Thank GOD for spell check.
4. If you arent a follower...please, become one. Just so we know youre out there and showing some love. We appreciate you.

"Have you girls ever been on a water taxi before? Want to?" Our Adventure with Russel Crowe

Being Katie's best friend definitely has its perks. Yesterday, was about the most RANDOM day anyone could ever have. I literally woke up this morning thinking...I cant remember what I did last night, not because I was hammered (though I wont lie to you, I was) but because I dont think my brain could process everything that actually happened. Here is our story....

The text message read "Russell Crowe just said hi to me!" Which was followed by a phone call that said "He bought me a coffee and I sat and talked with him and this famous rugby player!!Russell Crowe wrote Sam's number on a sandwich bag for me" My thought process... "Katie, you really are the luckiest person in the entire world" Sarah and I actually screamed into the phone like 14 year old girls at a Miley Cyrus concert. I informed her she couldnt go to the gym (which of course she did anyway) and had to come straight home and tell us all the details.

While we awaited her arrival Sarah and started making wedding plans. Apparently Sam Burgess

is one of the top rugby players from the UK and anyone who knows anything about rugby knows him. Of course Katie and I didnt. Anyway, Sarah and I were talking about how hilarious it would be if people started to ask how Sam and Katie met "Oh no big deal, Russel Crowe introduced them". What? Best story ever. We literally lamented our loss at not getting to meet him and how jealous we were.During this time Jenah came home from lunch with a friend and we had to regale her with Katie's tale...it went something like this:

Katie was sitting at the sandwich shop she goes to everyday for lunch. She was waiting for her order when she saw a cute guy walk in, she smiled, as per usual, and looked down. Then Russell Crowe walked up to her and said "Hello". After he walked by she texted all of us thinking that would be the extent of their conversation. RUSSELL FREAKING CROWE then walked back up to her and asked her where she was from etc. She responded and THEN he told her that his friend thought she was cute (the same friend indeed that she had noticed when he walked in) and asked her to join them. WHAT?. Naturally she did. They talked for awhile and Katie told us that Russell was the best wing man ever. He told her how Sam was from the UK and now plays for his Rugby team the South Sydney...Rabbitohrs? I believe. While Sam and Katie were talking Russell wrote down Sam's number on a sandwich bag and told her to call him. She said she would. Smart girl that Katie. Sarah was mortified that we might in the future get to hang out with a rugby team while she was at home in England...sometimes dreams come true Sarah, somtimes.

Katie did text him and they had set up to meet today aww :) Since none of us were working today we decided that we were going to go out hardcore in celebration of Katie getting bought a cappuccino by the man himself. Jenah and I are into doing really random things on random nights and seeing what happens so eventually we decided that we were going to dress up and go out in Darling Harbour. Somewhere that would probably be dead but Sarah, Jenah and I had splurged on bottle of vodka so we figured we would have a good time anyway. Poor Katie.

Dan, Katie, Sarah, Jenah and I caught a train to Townhall and walked to Darling Harbour and went into a random bar. Though, can I tell you that on the train ride Sarah was swinging around the poles inside the train? Our very own entertainment... the hidden talents that girl has ;)

We went into a random bar that I cant even remember the name of and sat down. Jenah and Sarah had some wine and Dan went out for a cigarette. When Jenah and Sarah were getting up, on their way to dance on top of some tables (yes it was one of THOSE nights) we hear a voice say "Have you girls ever been on a water taxi in the harbour?" We look up, and to our ASTONISHMENT Russell Crowe is standing before us...Jenah and Sarah say that we hadnt and he asks if we would like to. Yes, Russell, Yes we would. Then he recognized Katie and they had a moment. They hurried us onto the boat and we left Dan behind...SUCH douchebags...for some reason I think that was my fault. Idiot.

So the four of us get on this beautiful boat. Sarah, Jenah and I were, shall we say, feeling REALLY good so as we were getting on the boat you could hear Mr. Crowe saying "Easy, focus on a target. Look at a target and go for it". We made it on. We sat around this table and it was the four of us, Sam, another player from the team, I think his name is Nathan and two other rugby players who are apparently legends. Katie and I didnt know them either. There was also a waitress who kept bringing ou more and more alcohol (Sarah continued with the Vodka Diets and I continued with the wine. GOOOOOOD IDEA. Not)To be honest I cant remember what we talked about except that I was talking to Keith, Russell's "business manager"(aka personal assistant) and I kept trying to figure out what he actually did. Dry Cleaning. Anyhow, Katie and Sam were deep in conversation and Russell told them that if they had kids he expected one to be named Russell, I interjected "How about Russell Jacqueline?" Really? ugh.

While Katie and Sam were talking Sarah kept trying to get Sam's attention..."Sam, Sam...Hey hey Sam, Sam 'little wave'...SAM" He finally took notice of her and she just said "Gavin Henson and Charlotte Church?" (they are apparently famous people in the UK) He looked at her and goes "Yea, do you know them?" She looked at his with an expression of knowing and said "Yep". That was it..after ten minutes of work.

Something else to note...Sarah has a celebrity hysteria and anytime she sees anyone famous she basically cracks and goes ballistic, hyperventilating...the whole shebang. So this was a HUGE deal. Throughout the night she had to get pep talks from Jenah that went something like this "Sarah, youre ok, just keep it together a little longer and you can freak out when we get home. Youre doing good" And she did. But..she did get told of by Russell "Sarah, calm down. Just chill out". None of us can remember what she did to get this reaction. Hilarious.

The next thing I remember is getting off the boat and hearing Russell say, "Watch the wet step. Careful. The wet one watch out". You think im going to fall at this point dont you? NOooo I made it. Then we got in a taxi and went home.

I woke up this morning to find out that the boat had been docked because I fell asleep...on the table. Not sprawled out, but enough for the boat to be DOCKED. We also had been given food. At one point I had been passed out, Jenah had been shoving food into her face like a "savage" and Sarah was coming back from the bathroom walking like Godzilla because she was scared she was going to tip over because of the waves, yea...the waves. Russell came to her aid and helped her sit down. Aw.

But pooor Katie...her roommates go big one night not worrying about going to work hungover and we meet RUSSELL FREAKING CROWE and the guy she is going out on a date-ish thing with. WHAT? I also had LOST my wallet. Could not find it anywhere in the house and was convinced I had lost it on the way to get a cab. Katie called the driver and he said he would look. Katie calls me later to tell me that Sam had my wallet. Apparently, I threw it to Russell Crowe and had forgotten it. It went something like this...

Russel CROWE told me I should go have a look from the back of the boat and as I go over there he tells me to hand him my wallet so I dont lose it over the side(I feel like he really KNEW me) My response "Nope. You might steal something" What? Katie said "Jacque really?" (As in what the hell do YOU have that RUSSELL CROWE would want) and then she told me she would take it. I said"No, Ill give it to Russell" and I threw my wallet at Russell. Apparently he did steal it :)

All of this occured and NONE of us have a camera...which is probably better for us in the long run. Especially since when we got home Sarah BURST into tears. We're talking mascara all down her face, tears flowing like the Nile, screaming sobbing hysterics. Apparently she told Jenah she needed to go for a walk to get herself together. An hour and a half later Jenah and Dan found her in a convenience store fighting with the guy for giving her a faulty calling card(She needed to call and tell her Mum the news). When she had initially walked into the store the guy that worked there had been passed out (looking something like I did on the boat im sure) and so SARAH, before waking him, snuck a few candies and left the wrappers on he counter. The perfect crime.

The three of them walked back to the apartment and got home at like 5am. Jenah and Sarah woke up at 830am to go on a walking tour of Sydney. Well played.

Katie should be out with Sam right now...hopefully apologizing for my, tiredness, Jenah's starvation and Sarah's continuous star-struck expression....what a night. Happy Monday.

SURPRISE!

On Tuesday the 15th Jenah turned 23! So, since we are broke, we had to do something fabulous.

Sarah had arranged for Jenah's friend Brooke who is up in Brisbane to tell Jenah that she couldnt fly in for her birthday. Psyche. We had arranged for Brooke to meet Katie, Sarah, Jenah and I at the bus station because we decided to go down to Bondi for dinner. When we got to the station Brooke was waiting and Jenah was literally shocked. Brooke had walked in behind a group of other people so Jenah was quite confused for awhile as to what her present was...she seemed to think we had paid for her to have friends for a night, then Brooke appeared amongst the crowd! Hugs for everyone! Then we jumped on a bus and went to an Italian place for dinner called Papa Gregorio's...or something.

After that Jenah thought we were going home to change and then go to The Eastern for drinks because my manager at Capital Grill bartends there...Wrong again... we had planned for our friend Ali to pick up the keys from us earlier in the day (he just popped in to say hi...so Jenah thought) and he got to our place at about 9 to let everyone in for the surprise party. When we walked up the stairs to the house Jenah clearly went first because the rest of us couldnt find our keys... When we walked in it was silent and pitch black and I couldnt hear anyone and thus thought the surprise had failed somehow...the people started jumping out from all kinds of places and legitimately surprised all of us. I think Jenah peed her pants.

We all hung around the house and played some drinking games and the like. Jenah was given a fish by Ali...she named it Sarah..aw. Dan also moved in that day. Yay roommate! All in all, I think she had a much better bday than she thought she was going to.

Last night I was suppose to go out with some people from The North Face but decided to accept Katie's offer and go to dinner with her a her friend from Cal Pol. Caitlin is such a sweetheart! She randomly facebooked Katie saying she also was in Sydney and lives REALLLY close to us. We went to a Thai place called Thai Fire..something...I forget. It was rad. We talked forever and Caitlin is such a sweetheart. After, she took us to a Chololateria on Bondi beach and it was AMAZING. They literally having everything. We got churros that you can dip in milk chocolate, white chocolate or dark chocolate and a chocolate vanilla milkshake. I found Heaven and its filled with far too many calories. http://www.sanchurro.com/ SO GOOD.

While we were eating two of our friends from the hostel came by and we all hung around and talked for awhile. Then...we went home :)

And we are SOOOOO EXCITED FOR KATIE'S MOM AND BROTHER TO COME SATURDAAAAYYYY!!!!!!! Then for Dad to come on CHRISTMAS EVE! WHoooooooooo0o0o0o0o!! xoxo

Saturday Slamdown

Things we are NOT too excited about...
-Laundrettes...doing laundry here is so expensive. Katie has also been known to take her laundry on the train to do it near her work, she does NOT like that. :)
-7:30 am shift at the new restaurant. My manger told me I would be working those shifts because I have "a very friendly and bubbly personality". He thinks im always happy...he has yet to see me at 7 in the morning.
-The show Ready Steady Cook. The host could NOT be more condescending or irritating.
-Sunburns. You blink here and youre burnt to a crisp.
-The graphic nature of the commercials. There is this diaper or "nappie" commercial and this kid has explosive diarrhea in the car and you see it from outside and it just COVERS all the inside of the windows...in another one they show skin cancer and it moving through your body...I dont like that one because it's true and hits a little close to home. "There's nothing healthy about a tan"
-Children that dont look where they are going and slam into my knees, then look at me and cry like its my fault. Kid, Im the one with bad knees and you have a hard forehead. Youre four...you can bounce back. Im a sixty year old in a 22 year old body. Im going down quick. Slow down when in supermarkets.

Things we love!
-Nando's Extra Spicy Sauce. I LOVE it and went through a whole bottle in two days.
-City Gym, where Katie works out. Apparently the people are great and she ran six miles yesterday.
-Free Internet at McDonald's by our apartment. The view from up here is AMAZING.
-The show White Collar.
-Glee...also a fabulous show. Season finale tomorrow. Whooooo
-The movie Football Factory. Danny Dyer is adorable
-Scotch Fingers, this like shortbread cookie, dipped in tea. Im pretty sure Katie ate a whole bag in one sitting. Amen for City Gym. (Just kidding, I love you)
-La Roux's Bulletproof. RAD SONG.
-Cooper Park, which is right around the corner from our apartment. It's really cool because its like being in the Santa Cruz mountains in the middle of Bondi. Its not huge but its really quiet and relaxing. I run through there now..well maybe not anymore as Jenah was walking there and looked down and there was a huge green snake next to her foot...I may find a new path now. Or another hobby...its far to hot to RUN here. Ironic, I swam in MICHIGAN and run in Australia.Idiot.
-Robert Palmer's song "I Woke up Laughing". Its a feel good song. Sarah thinks the background music sounds like a ringtone. Surprisingly, it doesnt irritate me.

And that is this weeks Slamdown. PS... I know it's two words but I like it as one.

Good Night/Bad News/ Mad Money

Nothing too interesting has been going on with the traveling front as Jenah and I are just getting under way with our jobs and are trying to save so we can actually go places with Katie but our nights out (where WE havent spent any money) have been really good.

Last night we went downtown to this place called The Ivy

which has won a bunch of awards. Sarah and I took the train and met Jenah, who was coming from work and then walked over to the Ivy where Katie was waiting for us with one of her coworkers Billy, who seems so sweet from the two seconds I talked to her. The setting is really great at this place, you walk in into a large courtyard and there is big tree in the middle of the floor and you look up and its actually outside. The crowd was very corporate with most of the men in button ups and suit pants etc. The middle of the floor turned into a dance stage kind of deal and there were two bars downstairs. If you went up the spiral staircase there was another bar and it was more of a casual, social, chatty kind of area. It was a really awesome place and very different from the Tea Gardens, which is now our default location and the bouncer refers to me as "California" now. How original...(But the time before last that we went in there a drunk guy outside was yelling death threats at them "Im coming back with a gun and im going to shoot you in the face" Really?)Anyway...

The Ivy was good and Katie had started talking to a guy who she thought had a very familiar name. I had not spoken a word to him or had been introduced to him so KATIE asked me to ask him if he owned a Ferrari or a Maserati...she dared me to so of course I did it. I tapped his arm and said "Im sorry, I know this is a random question but are you by chance in the market for a Ferrari or a Maserati?" He looked at me and replied "I own a Maserati" my classy response was "Oh, Ok, just checking" and turned away. No no, I didnt look like a gold digger AT ALL. About ten minutes later he walked back over leaned into me and said "Is it time for me to trade up?" I laughed and tried to explain that Katie worked there and he told me that my question had totally thrown him off and left him very confused. I then directed his attention to Katie and left it at that. They chatted but she wasnt interested...oh you :)

After a bit we left and went to the Ivy's COMPLETE opposite Scruffy Murphy's which is an Irish pub. I loved it. On any other night we all would have been on the dance floor but we decided at that point to just go home. Mostly because the guy we had met at the Tea Gardens, who works there, wasnt actually there as he should have been.

Jenah, Sarah and I went to the Tea Gardens and hung out with some people for awhile, who got kicked out for wrestling...they were like 40 years old...and we just talked for awhile.

It turns out that Sarah is most likely going home and we are SO bummed. She is kind of having a hard time finding a job so she may either go up to Brisbane or fly back to Devon...She is basically one of my favorite people ever and if you hear her tell a story she'll have you in stitches. SUCH BAD NEWS! Jenah is also thinking she may get fired from one of her jobs which kind of sucks but she hates it anyway...

All in all...sad sad news. Scottish Dan may be moving in with us if Sarah leaves which would be alright, but not the same :(

I found fifty dollars on the ground at the Ivy and no one seemed to have looked concerned that they were missing a fifty. Its THAT kind of place. And I really did find money, its not just one of those times where you tell a bad story and say..."Then I found fifty bucks" I did.

Hope all is well.

Saturday Slamdown

I think from here on out every Saturday im going to try and do the "Saturday Slamdown" which I have modified from my beautiful and brilliant cousin Tammy's "Things I love Thursdays". Tammy writes about things she loves about her family, Oregon, and basically just the little things that make life better. I have decided that the "slamdown" will be both things we love, but also things we arent too fond of about Australia, or maybe just things we have noticed.

Please forgive me, I can tell you already that this will not happen every Saturday, and sometimes it may be a Sunday (Ill try and stick with the alliteration) or it may not occur, either for lack of things we love or hate, or because I forgot...or am lazy :)

Today's might be a bit long because its not just from this week...but from the past 5. Excited? Good.

Some things we DO NOT LOVE
*The way Oreos taste. There is something about the cream filling that is just different and displeasing
*That we cannot find 1% or 2% milk. It's either straight up Milk or Light Milk...
*Tomato Sauce = Ketchup. No it does not. They are not the same thing Australia, get it together.
*The phrase "How are you going?" When first asked this question we were both taken off guard and made some stupid response. Mine was along the lines of "Uhh, hmm...im going well. Yourself?" Clearly, not the proper response. Ive noticed most people just repeat the question back or say "Well"...how easy that response is
*Some men here are not very "chivalrous" I guess would be the term. We both have experienced being shoved out of the way while trying to go up an escalator. Or while we are trying to get off the train people wont let you out of your seat or will cut you off. Rude.
*Speaking of RUDE...Katie has been asked out or had her number asked for by two creepy guys who go into her work. JUST because you have a Ferrari DOES NOT mean youre entitled to be a huge condescending ass and expect her to cough it up. Idiots. (But I guess that isnt Australia specific). She has managed to preserve her precious phone number.
*McDonals is nicked name Maccas...what the hell?
*DAYTIME TELEVISION IS HORRIBLE. The news here is a joke, I think they make half of it up. But generally the commercials stress me out. ESPECIALLY since the actors teeth are, on average, poor. I had no idea that in the States we had an exceptionally high standard for teeth quality. I wouldnt survive anywhere else.
*Sydney is expensive
*a 6 pack of Corona is like 19.75. But its also imported from farther away so I guess it makes sense. But a fifth of vodka is like $35 (Not that I know or have been checking prices EVERYWHERE I go :)
*That people judge us instantaneously for being American. That..is a story unto itself. ive had to keep a few people in check.

Things we LOVE
*Generally people are SO helpful. If you ask for help or directions people go out of their way to help you.
*Passion Pop

$6.50 and its like a flavored sparkling wine..thing
*The beach, yes this is the one right by our house

*There are so many people from so many different places SO close together
*The train system, apparently is sucks here but I like it better than home.
*All the harbors.

Ha- as a side note we asked our roommates what they though of as being stereotypically American and they said:
*Peanut butter and jelly Sandwiches
*Milk and cookies
*Oreos
*Fascination with having perfect teeth (I have proved this true many times over)

Thats all I can think of at the moment. I know I forgot a ton of stuff and I dont have Katie with me to keep me in check at the moment.

Anyway, our roommates also freaked us out and told us they were broke and may be leaving to go pick fruit in Tasmania...we'll see if that actually happens but its an intriguing thought to say the least. I think and hope they'll stay, we arent worried and think it will all be fine :)

Thanksgiving

As it turns out, when I drink or have a party I like to make sure that there is another event or get together on the way. Thus, during our House Warming Party I asked an entire room full of people who wanted to come over for a real American Thanksgiving. The whole room raised their hand. The funny thing is I had no recollection of inviting over twenty people to our house for dinner. Lord knows I cant cook, and neither can Katie. She literally set a vegetarian sausage on FIRE last night before we went out. She tried to hide it from Sarah and I who had been in the living room and probably would have pulled it off had the smoke alarm not given her away.

Anyway, I had gone back to Kings Cross the Monday following our party and saw Jen (England) and Hyphy Jamie eating at the Sugarmill. I sat with them and talked for awhile then Jen mentioned Thanksgiving and asked if we were still having our dinner. I stared at her in aw because I really hadnt remembered inviting everyone over. I asked her how many people said they had wanted to come and she told me that pretty much everyone had said they would. I looked at her and my mouth dropped. How were Katie and I going to feed all these people?! I asked her if she knew how to cook a turkey and unfortunately she said that she did not. But then she told me that I had asked Ali (Katie and my old roommate from the Pink House who went to four years of culinary school) to help me. He had said that he would. At least when im slightly intoxicated I make sure to cover all the bases.

When I got home I asked the girls if it were ok if everyone still came over, realizing at that point just how much work it would entail. They said it was fine and then Jenah told me that Sarah had actually gone around at our party and had been telling everyone they are coming over for Christmas...looks like we're covering all the holidays. I called Ali and he said that he would still come over and help cook. THANK GOD.

We went shopping the next day and it took forever deciding what we were going to have because we had some vegetarians and we didnt want to spend a ton of money. The final menu came out to:
Turkey (duh)
Mashed potatoes, or just mash as everyone else says (duh)
Stuffed bell peppers
This tuna mixture Ali devised that was delicious and I hate tuna
and Louisiana Katie brought a peach apple crumble. Danny made this chocolate crunch thing and Knute made Pecan Pie minus the pecans. I dont know how that worked out but it was really good.

On Thanksgiving Jenah,Sarah and I woke up and peeled the potatoes and Britt (Ali's girlfriend) and Ali came over at like 1:00. The three of us went shopping and got some bread and spinach to make a spinach dip, and some other stuff. When we got back to the apartment I had expected to be put to work as did Sarah and Jenah. However, Ali pretty much just kicked us out of the kitchen and literally did EVERYTHING. I felt so bad becasue that really wasnt my intention. I thought we were all just going to be his slaves as he delegated from the living room. Every time one of us would walk in the kitchen and ask if he needed help we would get the stare of death. We would then quietly retreat back to the living room with our tails between our legs realizing we were not helping, just being a constant irritant. It was probably better this way...So, Britt, Sarah, Jenah and I played Jenga in the living room. I lost. Shaky hands.

Katie came home from work at about six and at this point we were all kind of waiting for everyone to show up. Dinner wasnt until about 830 because a few people had to work. When Danny and Knute showed up with dessert it was about the sweetest thing ever. Neither of them seem the type AT ALL to cook...let alone bake. We were all quite impressed, especially since it was so good.

By 8:45 everyone was there, in total about 20 people smashed into our hot, little apartment. Aw. Everyone was starving and by the time everything was done people were in the living room acting as if they were five wondering where dinner was and when we were going to eat etc etc. When the food was finally served silence filled our humble abode. Ali could not have done a better job cooking for so many people in our kitchen that has NO counter space. The turkey was super moist, the bell peppers were perfect, and the mashed potatoes tasted just like my grandmas. I was pleased as punch. A dinner that had taken 6 hours to cook plus 2 hours of shopping took about 6 minutes for everyone to eat. It was like no one had had a real meal for months (which for some people might actually be true). A general overview....

Naturally, after we ate we started drinking. It wasnt at all like our party it was more laid back and we sat around talking and playing a little King's Cup. At this point I started inviting the girls over for "Girls Night Saturday", surprising? I think not.

After awhile there was a pounding at our door. We all looked at each other knowing we were going to get yelled at by someone. Katie, our diplomat, went to answer it. She talked to someone outside for quite awhile. When she came back in she kind of "popped her collar" and said something along the lines of "No problem, its all taken care of". Apparently when Katie opened the door there was a man there (YES, the same man who had been staring into our window) and he took a few steps back down the stairs and said "You guys are being so loud! My wife's pregnant and our neighbors have two kids keep it down!" and was pretty much just yelling at my dearest Katie. Katie, like a real champ, kept it together and apologized, telling him that we would of course turn the music down and keep people quiet. All he had to do was come over and ask. After she finished talking he looked at her and said "Oh where are you from?" and she told him "America..." and then he started having a nice conversation with her asking what part because as it turns out hes from Illinois. Once he realized the Irish girls were no longer living there he became quite pleasant. USA USA USA. Then he left and Katie came back in and we carried on.

It turned out to be a fantastic Thanksgiving and everyone had a really good time. Success. If anyone is wondering what we have been eating the past few days...the answer is clearly mashed potatoes. More information on girls night to come :)

Minor Details...

Just to add some details from the party I forgot that are kind of funny...

Before the party started Sarah realized that the handle on the door to her room was broken adn if you closed it all the way it couldnt be opened. During the party, I see Jaime literally kick the door in as if he were a character on The Shield and I ripped him apart. Something along the lines of "DAMNIT JAIME! I have absolutlety NO problem kicking you out of here RIGHT now. Youre such an idiot!" Only to watch his face drop and look so sad, then to here Sarah say..."Jacque, I asked him to because the door couldnt be opened" oops.

As most of you know, Katie has a weird obessesion with ketchup. At the end of the night she watched a group of English boys from the hostel (I refer to them as the Hansen brothers) go into the fridge and steal her beloved bottle of ketchup. ..that was all they took. Apparently they made up some lame excuse as to why they needed it when she confronted them so she let them take it. Such a sweetheart.

Also, this guy who is now called "Disco Graham" had his eyebrows shaved off. Yes, both. When the Hansen brothers walked in I thought "Ha! I knew that one was gay!" Because he had his eyebrows penciled in...apparently the leader of the pack just shaved them off while he was sleeping and he had no choice, he also isnt gay. Another one of them only had one eyebrow shaved...he looked like a bigger idiot. But of course, the pack leader had to shave off poor passed out Graham's eyebrows...with MY razor. But the next morning I decided he deserved it because the chair he had been passed out in had a huge wet spot which looked like pee...good riddance to your eyebrows sir.

I think that's it... :)

House WARMING Party

We had our house warming party Saturday night and it was a blast! Katie and I had been worried the whole time about the noise and being kicked out within the first week. The noise was not the problem.

This weekend there was a heat wave and our apartment was literally a sweat box. It was not a house warming party, but a house sizzling party. It turned into a pants off dance off not because it was the theme but because people were sweating so badly. The English had quite the time because they arent used to the heat, so our roommates ended up real drunk, REAL quick. A few of them even ended up sick.

We played kings, and there was some beer pong, which was such a joke, and generally just ridiculousness. Sarah and Jenah bought speakers so the music was like perfect and we woke up the next day with people passed out all over the place.

Jenah (who had been army crawling around the night before because he legs had failed her), Dan, and Knute went to the store the next morning and Louisianna Katie and I made pancakes while, of course, Katie continued to sleep. We had pancakes and eggs then people who felt up to it went to the beach and the rest of us bummed around pretty much all day.

The Irish stayed and started drinking at ten and went through half a bottle of vodka, a bottle of passion pop (yes, its as good as it sounds) and a crate of beer. They impress me. Its funny because once they get drunk their accent gets even thicker and they are almost impossible to understand. But they are SO hilarious. Ill have to record a typical conversation one day.. I LOVE them.

Anyway, im off :) xxx

Apartment!

We moved in! The four of us moved into our apartment on Tuesday and we love it. There were some problems at first though:
1. Katie and I spent 3 hours cleaning it and it was still dirty
2. A cockroach flew into the window at two in the morning and Katie and I had quite the fiasco trying to kill it. The bottom of my tennis shoe will never be the same
3. While Katie and I were moving into our room I looked out the window and there was a dude that was in the shadows of the apartment next door staring into our window. I waved, like an idiot, and he said something in another language and continued to stand there. We even turned the lights out and peaked out the window...he was there for about 15 minutes. Apparently hes just some noisy neighbor. Hmm...
4.One of the rooms is way smaller than the other. So we are going to switch halfway through
5. The flies are ridiculous. There is no fly swatter large enough to handle them. And they are fearless. The little bastards just sit and when you try and swipe them away, you can actually hear them laughing at you.
6. No AC and apparently there is going to be a heat wave this weekend.
7. The laundry room is like a torture chamber. Katie and I did laundry the first night and there was LITERALLY a spider in there the size of my head. ...you all know how large my head is. Thanks Daddy.

Things we like:
1. It's really good sized
2. Great location, close to the train, the mall is on the walk to the train and the grocery store is in the mall (Which I think is really, weird), the beach is just a quick step away, and there are some bars around. There is also a Pie Face in the mall. Katie and I are now addicted. I was a little intoxicated with Sarah and Jenah one night (Katie had work the next morning) and apparently I ate a piece of pizza and then got this pie that I thought was the most delicious thing I have ever tasted. I remember thinking that I ate something SO wonderful the night before but I couldnt remember actually consuming it. Katie and I went to the place Sarah and Jenah told me we went to and each got a vegetarian pie. And it was STILL amazing.
3. It came fully furnished
4. There is more cabinet space than any one person could dream of
5. The neighbors seem great from who we have met (Minus creepy next door)
6. The landlord is rad

Thats all I can think of at the moment. Hopefully after this Saturday we will still have an apartment as we are having our "House Warming Party".

Cheers xxx

House Hunting...

..in Sydney was an absolute JOKE. It was such a pain trying to find a place that was a decent price, in a good location, and was furnished for four people. We started by looking at about every website that was available, realestate.com.au, domain.com.au, gumtree.com etc etc. We found some houses that we liked on like realestate.com and went to check them out but they were either unfurnished or we had to apply to it through a real estate agent we went to about four open houses but they were all a bust.

The real estate applications were a joke because of course they asked us for proof of employment, dates we would be in the house ( most wanted at least a year), references from previous landlords and all of this stuff none of us have. Thus, we decided that going through the bigger sites wasnt the best plan and we just stuck to gumtree where the deals just go through you and the landlord.

Jenah and I went to look at a place after we went to the beach. After getting lost trying to find it, we finally arrived at an apartment that a group of boys lived in. Fail. It was too small and too expensive for the location. Apparently, the neighbors were also horrible and couldnt stand any noise whatsoever. On the walk home, after a BEAUTIFUL day at the beach (I mean perfect weather, you couldnt ask for anything better) we got caught in a thunder and rain storm. At this point our hopes were quite down about finding anywhere we would like.

The next day, Saturday, I found a place on gumtree and called. The guy seemed pretty spastic and said we could see the place at three. This two bedroom apartment is in Bondi Junction which is five minutes from the train station and ten minutes from the beach, fully furnished with two beds in each room, sheets provided, cutlery, and everything we could ever need. Too good to be true? He called me back to say that three wouldnt work but the girls who lived there would be there at six. Katie and I got there first, checked it out and fell in love. Jenah and Sarah got lost so after we hung out with the current tenants (and new best friends) for about half an hour, Sarah and Jenah turned up and had a look at it. When we left it didnt seem like they liked it, but they loved it. I called the guy right then and told him we wanted it.

We move in Tuesday :) The location is perfect and it is SO cute. Its just weird because the street we live on is called Old South Head Rd... Anyway..WOOOOOO!!! Check one! Well Check one for me....Check two for Katie who is also employed as a receptionist for Ferrari. Surprised? Neither am I ;)

The Whole Kit and Kaboodle

Well, if you have ever wondered what a piano bar owned by a stripper looks like, we found it. The Kit and Kaboodle is a lounge-like bar fully equipped with leopard print couches, red velvet walls, frilly pillows, a gold hand shaped chair and of course, a zebra print piano. We went there Wednesday night with Felix, Clement (our new French friend), Jenn ( a new English friend who is AWESOME), Steve, Scotland Dan, Roommate Danny and Kate. We all hung around then Felix, Katie, Clement and I stayed and danced. When "Soldier Boy" came on Katie and I proceeded to, again, clear the dance floor with our choreographed American "Soldier Boy" routine. Boy did we "crank that". Everyone was so confused and had no idea why we knew the dance to such an absurd song. We went back to the hostel at about 2am and I sat on the couch with a new English guy named Mike who is an "arborist" if anyone was highly concerned about that. He asked me if I had any gum, I said the only piece left is in my mouth, he asked if it still had flavor, I nodded and took it out of my mouth...and yes, yes he did chew it. In Australia everyone is big on recycling....Shortly there after I went to bed and Katie was up for like another thousand hours talking to Clement about ponies and fuzzy ducks or something. Katie said they were actually talking about the differences in American and French culture...hm

Then yesterday morning we took Darby Dan to breakfast because he was leaving to go to Newcastle for a job. After that Katie and I went through a mighty fiasco trying to print off our resumes. After about an hour we went to a print shop thing and got that taken care of. Then we were off to find jobs...wooooo (blah). That took about five hours of walking around handing out resumes to some kinda general places. On the walk home we stopped at an apartment that was having an open house. I pushed the intercom button and the voice told me to "push". I responded "Sir, I am pushing". He kept saying, "No, no, PUSH"... after about two minutes of this insanity Katie reached over and pushed open the door to the building that I of course had been pulling...oh good. When we finally made it to the 12th floor we realized that the apartment was for sale...not rent. Then it was off to the LIQUOR STORE!

When we got back to the hostel everyone was sitting out back playing some drinking games. IF you would like to try them.. the first is 21.

21: Everyone sits in a circle and says a number 1-21 in consecutive order. When the person who is 21 says "21" they take a drink and choose which number they would like it change to a word. EX "4 is now armpit" this happens continually until it sounds something like 1-2-3-armpit-5-6-Jacque-fell- down- and -it-wasnt-surprising-14-15 etc. all the way to 21.

Frog: In this game there is a phrase, "one frog- jumps-into-the pond- plop!" each person in the circle says a part of the phrase. Once the phrase is finished it changed to "two frogs- two frogs- jumps- jumps-into-into..." etc and this happens up to "five frogs" x5. We never made it that far.

After this Jenn and I went to the liquor store. I was in such a delightful and cheery mood that I asked the creepy liquor store guys if they are hiring. They arent Way to go Michigan education.

That night we went to the World Bar and just kind of hung out and talked. I left early and went back to the hostel and played some cards. Katie stayed at the World Bar and talked to Jeff about chivalry. While here we noticed that the French guys are all SO polite. They are very accommodating and will always open the door for you, stand when you stand, pay for drinks etc. As Katie says, "Chivalry is not dead, you just have to go to France to find it".

Today we woke up to, Steve saying, "YOURE FAVORITE ROOM CLEANER IS HERE! GET UP!" We werent even mad because his British accent is so endearing. He always says darling, sweetheart and princess (if youre lucky) when he talks to us and we LOVE it. As Steve says, he would "clean up" in America. Hence why the wake up call this morning wasnt too terrible.

We then got dressed and went around some more places to give out resumes. We actually applied to Italia Motori, which is a Ferrari and Maserati dealership...holllller. They are actually hiring as well. Cross your fingers. Then we came to our coffee shop and have sent some more resumes out. Later tonight we will be learning how to Irish Jig (hopefully, as the Irish said, we wont look like "protestants" when we do it. Oy). IF youre lucky and I learn how to work the camera there may be a video for your viewing pleasure.

Anyway, if there is anything you want to hear more about, or less about please let us know! Or if you need a list of characters or maybe some things you want to know that we can find out from some of the people we live with!

xoxo,
us

Rain?

What is going on? Yesterday it was about 85-90 degrees out and perfectly sunny but today its sprinkling and pretty chilly. At least I know it wont be snowing... :)

So, the day after Halloween we just kind of sat around at Roys, which we are dubbing OUR coffee shop, then we went back to the hostel and didnt really do too much worth mentioning but we did invite a bunch of people to go with us to Manly Beach on Monday.

Katie, Louisnia Katie, Roommate Kate, Roommate Danny, Steve, Ashley and I walked to Circular Quay which took about half an hour and then we picked up the ferry to Manly. I liked the downtown area of Manly better than Bondi, but the beach at Bondi was more enjoyable. The sand was better and the waves were bigger, however Manly was at a disadvantage because the weather wasnt as nice as we had been hoping. It would get SCORCHING hot for about a minute then the clouds would pass and it would be cold for awhile. Kind of annoying, but im sure it saved me from a terrible sunburn.

Louisina Katie (I need to think of a shorter nickname) went swimming with Ashley and when she came out she asked if anyone had a tissue. I asked her what she needed it for and she just sort of pointed at her face. I assumed she wanted it to wipe her mascara off so I gave her my black headband because I figured it would just blend in and I just used it to work out anyway. I threw it to her and she asked me about 20 times if I was sure she could use it and I continually said "Yes, Yes its fine!". Idiot. Yes, as im sure you all have already guessed she blew her nose in it. Some things never change. Like my luck.

When it got too cold to stay any longer we headed home. When we got back to the hostel we were informed that we would be going to The Sugarmill that evening with everyone. Our roommate Thomas who is French had also told us that he was going to make us dinner. I think I love him, it was SO good. It was chicken in a cream sauce (that was sour cream based and I wasnt even mad), with mushrooms and onions all put over rice. He also made a carrot salad which was so simple and really good. It was shredded carrots with oil, vinegar, garlic, and something else but unfortunately my memory sucks and ill never be able to tell you what it is. It was so good, Katie even tried a piece of chicken (which wasnt really her fault since Thomas snuck it in with her mushrooms), and she didnt even complain. So after we ate we were off to the Sugarmill.

The place was pretty classy and Jamie had managed to kick a whole group of people out of a section of couches...which we really didnt need since we just got up and started dancing anyway. At one point Sir Mix-a-Lot came on (for you parents out there its the song that goes "I like big butts and I cannot lie, you other brothers cant deny...) Louisiana Katie(LK from here on out), Katie, and I went crazy because it was definitely not something any of us had expected to hear. At one point Katie looked around and realized that all the people had created a space between us and them, kinda like a buffer- safety zone type thing around us. The people were also giving us looks as if we were insane. This also could have been because we kept shouting "TEAM AMERICA!" Who knows.... After a bit we went home and then to bed.

Yesterday, Katie and I woke up went to the Andrew (Boy) Charlton Pool, which is right over the bay and swam. To my unfortunate surprise the pool was filled with salt water. It tasted terrible and burned my eyes like crazy. ALSO, as you might image but never crossed my mind, the direction of the circle swim is opposite. I wasnt a fan, but im sure ill get over it. Though, we still havent gotten used to looking right, left right when we cross the streets. We've almost been run over about a thousand times. Darby Danny always screams "TO THE RIGHT" whenever he sees us crossing the street. Thanks Danny. As a side note, Danny also saved us from a horrible death. He was walking down the stairs and to his surprise heard terrible screams coming from our room. Katie had flung open the door in search of someone to save us, and luckily enough Danny had come running! He came in saying, "I heard some screams which seemed to signify lesbian love so I came straight away", unfortunately for him there was no love, but a cockroach the size of Katie's hand. He put it in a mug and threw it out the window. Im sure now its somewhere in my luggage...sneaky little bug.

Yesterday was uneventful and we just sent out applications and resumes, or "CV's" all day until we went to Kings Cross Thai, which was SO good, for dinner. It put No Thai to shame. Then we went out to The World Bar last night. This place was the most like a nightclub of all the bars we have gone to. It was three or four stories and had about 3 bars in it. The very bottom floor had all of the flashing lights and that jazz while the upper levels were more laid back and kind of hang around-like. People were doing karaoke and getting DOWN. Katie even managed to keep her contacts in all night. No thanks to me.

The night pretty much ended there and we all walked back to the hostel and hung around for awhile. People were watching Highlander when we got there... I had no idea it was such a TERRIBLE movie..."There can only be one..." It only sounds good when Dane Cook uses it in his skit about the tire hitting Mary in the face.HA. Always funny.

So some things we've realized:
-Traffic coming from the opposite direction is scarier than you think
-We cant talk to anyone in bars because of the usual things like, the noise, everyone talking at once, music but when you throw in everyone's crazy accents (especially the Irish) its IMPOSSIBLE to carry a conversation
-We may not be the stereotypical American's but we apparently "maul" people when we meet them. Both Roommate Danny and Felix told us that we were kind of a lot to handle when they first met us. Very smiley and we basically extracted their life stories from them in two minutes. Who knew we were overwhelming?
-The squiggly lines in the middle of the road signify when you can make a turn
-Im obsessed with the squiggly lines. Ive asked about them about three thousand times
-I dont know how to upload the pictures from my memory card to my computer (oops)
-Rats are as big as squirrels
-Outlets (or power points) are up near the ceiling as opposed to near the floor in some places
-Guys in bars are MUCH nicer, less skeezy and a tad more forward about getting drinks
-We havent been here for a week yet and it seems like forever
-Steve is NOT a batologist and if you ask him if the bats in the gardens have rabies he will make up a BS answer
-There are these CRAZY birds called Ibis, that are CREEPY and I want to kick them. They are like pigeons at home.

"What do ya got in there? Travel Twister?"

This is quite a long post so bear with us! We just want to catch all of you.

We arrived in Sydney at 7:30 am, or half seven, on Friday and from there it was just go, go go! We took a shuttle to our hostel, the Pink House, with the nicest family from New Zealand who invited us to come and stay with them if we ever went “across the ditch”. They gave us some advice about where to eat (at The Bourbon you can get a huge, delicious steak for only $10, too bad everywhere else is pretty expensive) and also told us about some other palces we should check out.

We checked into the hostel and met Miranda, the receptionist who is amazing and she gave us the keys to our room. The hostel is actually two houses that were joined together, there are 25 rooms total and probably about 65 people staying there. Katie and I dropped our bags off in our room, which is a coed dorm of 8,no one was in our room so we left and decided to go and try to find a vodaphone store (a cellular carrier). Of course we thought we could just find it on our own pretty easily and if not at least we would have a self guided tour.

We had a map from the hostel and went walking around through the city, our hostel is actually in Kings Cross so we hiked around and walked along a harbor and then we walked up a flight of stairs and found ourselves right outside of the Royal Botanic Gardens. GORGEOUS (also, quite humongous and maze- like). We walked through there and in the distance saw the famous Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.
We continued our walk and checked out the opera house, took some pictures and proceeded into downtown.

The city actually reminds us a lot of with the tall buildings and the crowds of people, but the weather, so much nicer. We searched and searched for the vodaphone place but continually came up empty handed. While walking about, we found Hyde Park and the Archibald Fountain as well as St. Marys Cathedral and of course…a Westfield Mall. At this point it was about 1:30 and neither of us had eaten and we were on the verge of quite cranky. Finally, Katie asked someone for directions and found that there was a vodaphone about 5 blocks away.

Can I just tell you that I wish I never had an iphone? We bought the cheapest phones they had for prepaid users so we wouldn’t have to get a contract. After spending about twenty minutes there we walked back to the hostel. As MY luck would have it, while walking back we spotted a vodaphone. Katie had even mentioned on the walk back "Hey, I bet we see a vodaphone like a block down the street from the hotel". Had we turned left coming out of our hostel instead of right and around this corner, it would have been two blocks away instead of five hours and about 6 miles. How typically Jacque.

It was about 3:00 when we got back and we grabbed our computers and went to the back patio. This is where we met Jeff (France), Darby Danny (England,Derbyshire to be exact), and Felix (Germany). All of them had been at the hostel for at least a month and when we told them what room we were in they proceeded to give us a hard time saying how it was the “sex room” and was also, unfortunately, infested with huge rats. This went on for quite awhile until I saw Darby Dan winking at Jeff. Jerks! Being so gullible is quite a pain sometimes.

We had Darby Dan and Jeff take us to a store so we could get some energy drinks. When we got back to the hostel we went and changed and met three of our other roommates Thomas, who is from France, Marty who is from Ireland and Danny who is from Manchester. He will be reffered to as Manky (someone from Manchester) Danny. We met Felix downstairs and he introduced us to Aimee, Wallace, Curtis (Canada), Jamie (Toranto), Katie (the only other American in the hostel who is from Louisiana), Sarah (England), Jenna (England),Danny (Scotland) and Kate, our only other girl roommate. At this point if I forget anyone’s name at the hostel im just going to call them Danny, even if they are a girl. We all went to the Bourbon for happy hour and sat around and talked while some of the guys ate. We came to discover that Manky Danny, or our roommate, is pretty much “events coordinator” of the hostel. He gets texts of all the places to go that night and whoever is with him gets in free etc. Did I mention that Toranto Jamie thinks that Katie and I are quite awesome because he LOVES the “hyphy movement”. He began to rap some Mac Dre and E-40 and gave me a VERY good thizz face. We will be getting along famously.

So, Manky Danny gets a text and we decide that we are going to go to the Fringe. It’s quite a walk and when we get there, of course, Katie and I bring everyone to the dance floor. Every time an American song came on (aka something that wasn’t techno) Katie and I pretended like we were on American Idol and belted out everything. We danced for awhile and then we took a group picture, in the process Jeff spills beer ALL over my pants. Surprisingly, we were having such a good time I wasn’t even mad. Which is kind of a big deal since I only have two pairs of pants and laundry is $5 a load.

At about 12:30am Katie and I realized that we were REALLY, REALLY tired. We had gotten off a plane that morning at seven and had been walking around all day getting lost and sunburned, hadnt eaten and had drank instead and then danced the night away. Everyone was actually quite impressed we made it that long. We were about to go and Scotland Dan and Felix told us to wait and they would walk us home, we said it was fine and we would somehow manage to get back if they wanted to stay but they would hear none of it and told us girls should never walk home alone in the morning, such the gentlemen.

On the walk back I was talking to Dan about Darby Dan (confused yet?) and asked where DerbySHIRE was. He looked at me, laughed and told me that in fact, Darby Dan was NOT a hobbit and this is NOT Lord of the Rings and that Dan is from Derby-SURE . This American accent has done nothing to help me. Some things never change, I go halfway around the world and am still mercilessly teased :)

When we get back to the hostel the people who didn’t go to the Fringe are all in the family room (we aren’t sure what they call it) and we stay for awhile but by this point our eyes wont even stay open. We go upstairs and jump into bed.

The next morning I woke up and looked under me (I have the top bunk and hadn’t yet met the person sleeping under me) and to my surprise I saw a little man curled up in a ball on the floor. I assumed this was my roommate who hadn’t made it into bed, until another man crept into the room and looked at the guy on the floor, looked around quite confused, and reached over him to get his stuff from a bag that was on the bunk beneath me. The confused man then left and I fell back asleep. When I woke up the guy was still there so Katie and I ignored him continued to get ready for breakfast and accidentally woke up Manky Danny, I asked him who the kid was on the floor and he laughed and told me not to worry about it…hmm

We went to breakfast and invited the world to come to the beach with us. We had convinced Manky Danny and Marty that they were coming while we were upstairs and we got Jeff, Sarah, Jenna, Scotland Dan and Felix to come as well. Marty also brought his cousins, Tony and Kevin.

We went to Kings Cross Station and got on a train to Central Station and then took a bus to Bondi Beach, it was really easy. The beach was pretty crowded but the weather was perfect, the water was clear and the sand was white. We laid out for awhile, went for a swim (Yes, that is correct, I braved the jellyfish and the sharks), the waves were pretty huge and then went to lunch. After lunch we went to a bar by the beach and sat around making jokes and teasing each other about our accents and the words we use for things. For some reason we had also talked about hamsters and Felix told us about his pet hamster George (Katie and I thought he was saying Josh for about ten minutes until he finally used his American accent, which was HILARIOUS, and told us that it in fact was George).

By this point we had about 6 pitchers of beer and Jenna had made a joke to which I spit beer all over her and Katie. Apparently to hang out with me now you need a raincoat at all times.Katie had also been talking about how much she loves Australia, from the weather, to the city then to the Australia people that were "so nice". I asked her what Australia people she had met so far (slightly confused) and she proceeded to spread her hands in reference to our new friends. About halfway through she realized she was a fool and our new group of friends did not contain ONE Australian. Oops.

Shortly there after (also having created a drinking game with Texas Hold 'em) we left. On the train Jeff had been looking for something in his backpack and Tony had been staring at him for awhile, out of nowhere he asks Jeff, "What do ya got in there? Travel Twister?" It was about the most hilarious thing ever, I think it might have been becasue of his thick Irish accent.

Anyway, we went back to the hostel to get ready to go out ON HALLOWEEN. There was a box filled with stuff and Katie and I just grabbed some random stuff and threw it on. First,we went to O’Malleys Pub but it was really crowded and there was no dancing so we then went to Kings Cross Hotel which was excellent. There were three floors, all of which had a different atmosphere and music. We went to the top floor and danced for HOURS. Throught the night.
I :
- was licked by some creepy guy that im assuming was French (NO, I did not lick him first, and NO, I did NOT like it)
-knocked out one of Katie’s contacts with my elbow (sorry I love you),
-was asked to hold the balls of someone dressed as a tennis -lost a shoe on the stairs and some fellow picked it up, held it out and said “Looks like tonight im your Prince Charming”
-and met one of the most awkward Australians I think I ever will.

How friendly people are here. I also realized that I need new shoes with a little less heel.

Katie:
-was hit on by an adorable Australian, who she had to ask where he was from because we still suck at accents (she finally met her Australian friend
-had her contact knocked out (sorry I REALLY love you)
-picked up loose change she saw on the ground because she could only see shiny things because her contact had been knocked out (it accumulated to 70 cents)
-was picked up by an Australian on the walk home “Hi there, can I buy you an ice cream?” (Also, Australian)
-and lost her key, while obtaining about 70 cents.

We were surprised to see how many people actually dressed up and how many people there are in Kings Cross. I guess this area is the place to go out on the weekend. Eventually, after we realized the place had been playing the same techno remixes of “Sexy Bitch” and about 5 other songs on repeat we decided to leave. Jeff and Felix walked Katie and I back and it was straight into bed. Though, we did see Thomas in the halls getting painted black at 2am getting ready to go out, he didnt make it home till six and is probably still in bed (its now about 5:50pm)

Katie and I woke up at 8am this morning ready to be productive, however we rolled over and fell back asleep to find that it was 1:30pm when we woke up….the rest of our roommates were still asleep as well. I love our room.

When we REALLY got up we changed and are now at Roy's trying to get some work done and catch the rest of you up!

Oh, as a side note, the kid who had been asleep on the floor was a friend of the previous tenant of the bunk below me. How he ended up in the room....I dont think we'll ever know. Scary? Apparently, normal :)

We haven’t started looking for jobs or places to live yet. That will be happening this evening and tomorrow. We decided that we are staying in the Pink House for probably another week because we have already fallen in love with it as well as the people.

Pictures will be coming soon, we havent had time to upload them yet.

Ill try to make these shorter and more to the point...but you all should know that im terrible at that

I also havent said "nugget" since ive been here. Katie is thrilled

Katie and I also have phones! So, if you want to call or text us email us or facebook us for the numbers! Or get in touch if you want to be fit in for a skype date :)

We do miss home too. Dont worry.
